You have broken my heart - Sri Chinmoy

You have broken my heart
by Sri Chinmoy

O my mind,
Time and again
You have broken my heart
With false promises.
You are so cruel!
You are such a liar!
Even though my heart is broken,
It is healing the wounds
You have inflicted on my dedication-life.

Yesterday is history - Emily Dickinson

Yesterday is history
by Emily Dickinson

Yesterday is History,
'Tis so far away
Yesterday is Poetry
'Tis Philosophy
Yesterday is mystery
Where it is Today
While we shrewdly speculate
Flutter both away

[ TPCASTT ]
Title: 'Yesterday is history' makes me think how worthy the time is. I think the title means not to waste time.

Paraphrase:
"A day ago has past"
"It was a long time ago"
"A day ago was a spider-web of beauty"
"I learned how live from it"
"A day ago, I did not know what life truly is"
"Today, I still do not know what life means"
"People can contemplate and brainstorm about what life is"
"Time will fly away while they waste time thinking"

Connotation:
"Yesterday is history" - metaphor
"Yesterday is poetry" - metaphor
"'Tis philosophy" - metaphor
"Yesterday is mystery" - metaphor

Attitude: The tone of this poem is really calm. The author's speaking makes me feel so peaceful.

Shift: Between "Where it is today" and "While we shrewdly speculate"

Title: It tells me how the life is important that we should not waste time.

Theme: Life is too precious, so we should not spend time trying to find the definition of it, but focus on living life out to the fullest. In other words, carpe diem!

[ Analysis ]
This poem tells me how the life is important. I learned the value of the time after I read this poem. I think 'Yesterday is history' means that the time has already passed, so we should not worry about the past. When Emily said 'Yesterday is poetry, it is philosophy' means that yesterday was beautiful, and people learn how to live from yesterday. And the last part of the poem shows that people try to find the true meaning of the life, but actually they should focus on living life out to the fullest. I think the author wants to tell the readers that they should know the significance of time, and they should enjoy their lives. Carpe diem!

Chicken Wing - Ed Meek

Chicken Wing
by Ed Meek

Just a simple, complex thing.
I am just a chicken wing.
I flap and flop until I'm fried,
Baked, broiled, or grilled outside.
Then fingers pull me apart.
Teeth gnarling on my bones inside.
Licking fingers, licking lips.
Reaching for another in their grip.
After all is said and done.
Tossing my remains in the garbage drum.

[ Why did you choose this poem? ]
This poem, "Chicken Wing" by Ed Meek, shows me that the speaker of this poem is
chicken wing. Ed described the standpoint of the chicken wing well and specifically.
I chose this poem because I liked the way the poet described the pitiable chicken wing.

[ SIFTSEI ]
Sense: This poem is about the chicken wing. It describes the situation of the chicken wing.

Intention: This poem is written to show the pity of the animals. The cruelness of people.

Feeling: This poem made me feel sorrowful just like the chicken wing.

Tone: The poet used pathetic and sad tone.

Style / Symbol: The author's style of describing the situation of the chicken wing affected the whole poem as it attracts readers' attentions. The fingers which pulled the chicken wing apart and the teeth which gnarled on chicken wing's bone symbolized the cruelness of people towards animals.

Emotion: The mood is sad and pathetic.

Imagery: It makes me to imagine that people are eating chicken wings cruely, and then throwing the bones in the garbage. It also makes me to imagine the sad look of the chicken wing.

[ Analysis ]
To understand this poem, I needed to think deeply. The main matter of this poem is the chicken wing. In this poem, the chicken wing is torn by people's fingers and teeth. The description that explains that people tear chicken wing off with their fingers and teeth, shows the cruelness of people. Also in the beginning of this poem, it says "Just a simple, complex thing". This means that people's ignorance towards animals is considered as a simple thing, but actually it's a complex problem. The narrator of this poem is the chicken wing, and this shows how much the chicken wing feels sorrowful. The last part, "Tossing my remains in the garbage drum", shows that after people eat or kill animals, they just do not care about the animals. The last part shows the cruelness of people most extremely.
