You have broken my heart - Sri Chinmoy

You have broken my heart
by Sri Chinmoy

O my mind,
Time and again
You have broken my heart
With false promises.
You are so cruel!
You are such a liar!
Even though my heart is broken,
It is healing the wounds
You have inflicted on my dedication-life.

Yesterday is history - Emily Dickinson

Yesterday is history
by Emily Dickinson

Yesterday is History,
'Tis so far away
Yesterday is Poetry
'Tis Philosophy
Yesterday is mystery
Where it is Today
While we shrewdly speculate
Flutter both away

Paraphrase:
"A day ago has past"
"It was a long time ago"
"A day ago was a spider-web of beauty"
"I learned how live from it"
"A day ago, I did not know what life truly is"
"Today, I still do not know what life means"
"People can contemplate and brainstorm about what life is"
"Time will fly away while they waste time thinking"

Connotation:
"Yesterday is history" - metaphor
"Yesterday is poetry" - metaphor
"'Tis philosophy" - metaphor
"Yesterday is mystery" - metaphor

Attitude: The tone of this poem is really calm. The author's speaking makes me feel so peaceful.

Shift: Between "Where it is today" and "While we shrewdly speculate"

Title: It tells me how the life is important that we should not waste time.

Theme: Life is too precious, so we should not spend time trying to find the definition of it, but focus on living life out to the fullest. In other words, carpe diem!

[ Analysis ]
This poem tells me how the life is important. I learned the value of the time after I read this poem. I think 'Yesterday is history' means that the time has already passed, so we should not worry about the past. When Emily said 'Yesterday is poetry, it is philosophy' means that yesterday was beautiful, and people learn how to live from yesterday. And the last part of the poem shows that people try to find the true meaning of the life, but actually they should focus on living life out to the fullest. I think the author wants to tell the readers that they should know the significance of time, and they should enjoy their lives. Carpe diem!
